Cthulhu is a cosmic entity from H.P. Lovecraft’s mythos, first introduced in the 1928 short story "The Call of Cthulhu." Described as a gargantuan creature with a squid-like head, clawed limbs, and massive wings, Cthulhu lies dormant beneath the ocean in the city of R’lyeh. 

In Lovecraft’s lore, Cthulhu and other ancient beings known as the Great Old Ones are beyond human comprehension, representing existential dread and the insignificance of humanity. Though “dead” and sleeping, Cthulhu influences human minds through dreams, inspiring cults devoted to its worship. Cthulhu has since become an icon of horror, symbolizing the unknown and unknowable.
